Gourmet teas from Tea Trunk

Tea is often thought of as being essentially a British beverage. But in fact the history of tea can be traced to China. The story of tea begins in China. According to legend, in 2737 BC, the Chinese emperor Shen Nung was sitting beneath a tree while his servant boiled drinking water, when some leaves from the tree blew into the water. Shen Nung, a renowned herbalist, decided to try the infusion that his servant had accidentally created. The tree was a Camellia sinensis, and the resulting drink was what we now call tea. Chinese varieties of tea were first introduced into India by the British, in an attempt to break the Chinese monopoly on tea. The British, using Chinese plantation seeds, plus Chinese planting and cultivating techniques, launched a tea industry by offering land in Assam to any European who agreed to cultivate tea for export.

Chai or Tea is an integral part of Indian cuisine in India. It is the ideal beverage for India’s hot & sultry weather because the hot tea triggers the body’s natural cooling reflexes and actually helps to tone down your body temperature. Most Indians drink Chai at least twice a day, once with breakfast and again for an afternoon tea, just like the British. In fact I tend to consume at least four cups in a day!. The craze and demand for different kinds of teas is definitely increasing every day in India and so is the availability of a wide variety of flavours like Oolong Tea, Green Tea & Black Tea to name a few. A number of tea sommeliers are coming up with an amazing array of flavours and concoctions to tickle the Indian taste buds. Everyone in my family is so fond of the beverage that I am always on the lookout for something different and flavourful. In one such quest of mine, I came across a brand called Tea Trunk.

Delighted to receive these amazing tea from Tea Trunk

Snigdha Manchanda, a tea sommelier founded and established Tea Trunk. She took inspiration from her father’s vintage trunk( where all the fine teas she collected were stored) and as a tribute named her brand Tea Trunk. What really caught my attention was the fact their teas contain no artificial colours, no  additives & no tea dust. Besides, Tea Trunk claims to curates the finest teas of India and craft them into unique blends with all natural ingredients and their teas are whole leaf, flavourful and healthy. That was enough to propel me into action and I ended up ordering a number of flavours from Tea Trunk for myself. What is great is the fact that Tea Trunk gives free delivery on orders above one thousand rupees.

Every tin of Tea Trunk’s gourmet tea contains cute little cards which give you instructions as to how to prepare your tea the correct way so as to enjoy it to the maximum

I was delighted to receive my shipment. I have to say it is the cutest packing I have ever seen (picture given above). As you can see it came in a colourful box with an elephant(mascot of Tea Trunk) dressed in different avatars!. My favourite is the one dressed in a tuxedo. The tea leaves were properly packed in a beautiful tin, very classy i have to say. Plus every tea tin came with a tiny card that mentioned the brewing time required and the correct method to prepare it. What’s more it also tells you the food pairings which best go with it. I was already impressed by the creativity & attention paid to such minute details.
