Yesterday evening I went to review Underdoggs Sports Bar & Grill in the Gomtinagar locality of Lucknow which is a part of the chain of Underdoggs Sports Bar & Grill which exists in the cities of New Delhi, Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Bangalore & Guwahati. This one in the city of Nawabs is the latest addition to this chain. I was keen on reviewing Underdoggs as it is the first of its kind in the city and naturally fills a gaping void in the restaurant scene in Lucknow. Finding the place is easy as it is situated on the fourth floor of the centrally located City Mall in Gomtinagar. The Underdoggs logo is hard to miss as soon as you step out of the elevator.

Friendly faces welcomed me as I found my way inside. The sports bar/grill covers a massive area. You’ll find different types of Board Games available like Carrom, Crossword, MoneyPlay and even Ludo to name a few. There are two huge Pool Tables in the centre of the restaurant for Pool lovers. You can also find a stack of Sports Illustrated magazines for the ones who prefer to update themselves with sports news from around the globe while sipping a martini at the bar. I know that is something I would do for sure!.The entire decor of the place has been done beautifully and in keeping with the theme of sports. One can see pictures of different sports personalities on the wall including posters of some of the most iconic events held in sports history like the fight between Muhammad Ali and Foreman held on 30th of October, 1974. Inspirational quotes by various sportspersons have been utilised to decorate specific areas of the place. What is interesting is the fact that every wall you look at will have a unique wallpaper and decor. The main bar managed by three efficient bar-tenders has been set up in the centre of the place. Huge flat screen televisions adorn different parts of the bar/grill, which is of course essential for any sports bar.

Trying my hand at a gameĀ Underdoggs Sports Bar & Grill

The Bar Menu is quite exhaustive and rightfully so as Underdoggs is a Sports Bar. They offer a variety of alcohol right from Straight Drinks, Wines, Liqueur, Beer Cocktails to the more predictable and popular Cocktails as well as Mocktails for the ones who enjoy non-alcoholic beverages. The Food Menu at Underdoggs is obviously inspired by Bar Cuisine and offers an array of lip-smacking starters to go with their alcoholic as well as non-alcoholic beverages. The popular dishes in this category are Jade Fried Chicken, South-West Quesadilla, Popcorn Shrimp, Underdoggs Mezze Platter and a variety of Spring Rolls. I ordered a plate of Jade Fried Chicken which is a lightly coated, deep fried chicken glazed with a slightly spicy sweet sauce. Along with it I ordered a Mocktail called Xavi Basil Pina which was basically pineapple juice stirred with tangy lime and basil and let me tell you it was delicious and hit all the right notes inside my mouth!. Jade fried chicken complimented my drink quite well and I literally polished off my plate lol!.

The Popular Main Courses offered at Underdoggs include Grilled Peri Peri Chicken, Grilled Lemon Butter Fish, different kinds of Pastas, Pizzas and even Kathi Rolls. Recently they have also started an Indian Main course Menu which includes Kadhai Paneer, Dal Makhani, Chicken Curry and Mutton Curry with a variety of indian breads to go with it to satisfy the Lakhnavi taste buds. For my Main Course I ordered a Grilled Lemon Butter Fish which had two steaks of Sol Fish on a bed of exotic vegetables accompanied by mashed potatoes. The vegetables used were to my liking yet I feel that the white sauce used in the dish could use a little more seasoning. I also sampled their Chicken Kathi Roll. The Kathi roll had chicken , onion rings and bell peppers inside and tasted fine.

Surprise! Surprise!.. they even have a decadent Dessert Menu!. I was quite keen on having their Rum Infused Gulab Jamun which is served with scoops of vanilla ice-cream in a Martini glass! sounds heavenly! right?!!..thats exactly what came to my mind but since it was not available so I ordered for a freshly made Chocolate Brownie. It had slices of freshly made brownie along with scoops of vanilla ice-cream with chocolate sauce drizzled all over..it completely satisfied my sweet -tooth cravings.
