Bell-sleeves is one fashion trend which is back with a bang this season. It’s no secret that the fashion conscious/high-on-style quotient crowd loves to infuse a little drama into their wardrobe, and the statement bell- sleeve is the ideal way to do so. I love them as they look feminine & classy at the same time. If you’re going to embrace the bell-sleeve, do so in a playful and carefree silhouette. You could opt for a bell-sleeve pristine white top with a pair of true-blue denims or go all girly with a summery dress like I have.
A bell sleeve can be either long or short and flares toward the bottom. Bell sleeves end anywhere from the elbow to the wrist. Flared sleeves ending at the upper bicep are similarly shaped, but are instead called butterfly sleeves. The effect is reminiscent of a bell in its shape. If the sleeve is relatively full in circumference and is gathered or pleated into both the armhole and at the bottom, it is called a Bishop’s Sleeve.
In India, bell-sleeves became very popular during the 1970’s, when fashion for both common-junta and stars took a liking to the style. In Bollywood, you had everyone from Saira Banu to Zeenat Aman sporting the style with élan. It did make a brief come-back in 2000 with the likes of Britany Spears & Kelly Clarkson choosing to flaunt the style. It faded away yet again only to re-surface now in a more practical & structured avatar. Unlike before. From crop tops to sexy dresses, the vintage trend has been adapted to suit a more trendy and sophisticated fashion-conscious crowd…looks like its here to stay for a while!
For today’s look I chose a gorgeous bright orange midi-dress with bell-sleeves from Latin Quarters. I simply love donning bright colours during summers and orange in-fact is one of my favourite colours. As far accessories go, I picked up these multi-coloured pom-pom danglers while vacationing in Kolkata from a quaint little shop in Salt Lake city Centre. I chose matching orange wedges with multi-coloured stripes on the heel from Nine-West to complete the look (pics given below).
I hope you liked the look I created for this post as much I did writing as well as shooting for it. For those of you who might like to know my outfit details they are as follows :
