Last evening I went for a Food/Restaurant Review @ Spice Caves. It is located in the Patrakarpuram Market in Gomtinagar in the city of Lucknow right above the Samsung showroom. The caves inspired exteriors make it very easy for the discerning eye to spot it in the bustling market.

True to its name, the place gives you a cavern-like effect on entering it. The restaurant covers a sufficiently large area & can easily accommodate a sizeable number of customers at a time. The interiors of Spice Caves have been done in accordance to the theme of the the place and is a visual treat!. The caves have a soothing effect on your nerves and the dim lighting sets the mood for a perfect meal!. What is interesting is the fact that every table has been arranged in such a manner that it renders a sense of having your own little private space for the entire dining experience. Doing full justice to the theme are the walls of the restaurant which showcase varied aspects of wildlife. My favourite is the face of a bearded cave-man that you will see on your left as soon as you enter Spice Caves, its truly majestic!(pic given below). A beautiful wooden staircase adorned with creepers and flowers leads to a more private space preferred by young couples or those looking for a romantic evening with their spouse. In fact the transition from the ground level to the next has been done seamlessly with the help of a waterfall-like setup.

The Cuisine served at Spice Caves is definitely its knight in shining armour !. Their Menu includes Mocktails like Virgin Pinacolada, Guava Merry, Mojito to name a few. I ordered a Mojito for myself which is a refreshing mix of Mint leaves, lime juice, with soda and Sprite on a mound of crushed ice. It was delicious and I found myself wanting for more and did end up ordering a second one!. For starters they have both Indian as well as Chinese fare. The Chef had prepared a special dining experience for me highlighting all their specialities. For starters I sampled Bhutani Leg which is plate of flavoursome chicken legs deep fried, tossed with loads of garlic and onion seasoned with Chinese sauces & served on a tandoor. Its is going to be introduced to the public very soon and will be the latest addition to their menu. I would highly recommend it to those with a hearty appetite. The second starter that I tried was Paneer Papadi. As the name suggests, it is made with cottage cheese cubes marinated in curd then coated with roasted papad and cooked!. It is one of their signature dishes and let me tell you it was the dish of the evening for me..absolutely delectable and mouth-watering!. It paired very well with the green chutney that it was served with. In my very first bite I could taste the fresh cottage cheese and the roasted papad , quite an interesting combination I must say!. Another popular starter that I tried was a plate of Dahi  Ke Kebab, which basically a mix of yoghurt and Indian spices..very palatable indeed!.

That’s me eyeing my Mojito!

For the Main Course, I had a few delicious vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian dishes  which included Dal Makhani which was your usual Black lentils simmered with tomatoes and cream, a charcoal grilled Paneer dish cooked in a thick tomato-onion gravy called Paneer Tawa Masala which paired very well with the stuffed Kulcha it was served with. The cottage cheese used in the Paneer Tawa Masala was fresh and melt-in-your-mouth. Followed by Murg Handi and Garlic Naan. I quite liked the gravy of Murg Handi which was cooked in a cardamom scented creamy yoghurt. The main course left me completely satiated and full!. I wrapped up my meal with Paan Shots which were delicious!..what I liked most about these Paan Shots was the fact that I could clearly taste more of paan and less of milk..exactly what I needed after such a huge meal in order to digest my food.

The entire dining experience at Spice Caves was a pleasant one..right from the moment I arrived and handed over my car keys to their efficient valet who took care of my parking woes to the ever-helpful staff inside the restaurant . It was heartening to see the owner Arun Gawri taking care of every little detail in the restaurant himself. In fact if you wish to celebrate a special occasion like your birthday , all you have to do is call up Spice Caves a day in advance and they will make all the arrangements right from flowers, cake, candles and even photography!. Or if you wish to enjoy a romantic evening with your spouse or a  special friend, they will arrange a romantic Candle-Light Dinner with flowers for your special lady!. So all you love-birds..what are you waiting for?!!..make a dash to The Spice Caves and celebrate your special occasion in style!!!
